Procaps labs donates 58 million Prenatal Vitamins SANTA BARBARA, Calif.– In developing countries and even in impoverished areas of our own country, studies have shown that a prenatal vitamin can be the difference between life and death for both mother and baby. In some cases, prenatal vitamins might be the only consistent care and nutrition that a mother and child receive and those vitamins have been shown to make a profound difference in the health and survival of both the mother and child. Millions of expectant mothers around the world do not have access to nutritious food and prenatal care. "Every year more than 500,000 women die during childbirth, and at least 10 million women suffer injuries, infection and disabilities," says Howard Schiffer, founder of Vitamin Angels, a nonprofit that has been providing vital nutrition and fighting vitamin A deficiency around the world for over 14 years. "Complications from childbirth are a leading cause of death and disability among women of reproductive age in developing countries." In an effort to help insure that hundreds of thousands of children are born into far less challenging circumstances, ProCaps Laboratories has partnered with Vitamin Angels to manufacture prenatal vitamins and donate them to Vitamin Angels’ Maternal Health Program for distribution both domestically and abroad. "There is likely no vitamin that can have a greater impact on life than a prenatal vitamin in the hands of a expectant mother," says Andrew Lessman, founder of ProCaps Labs. "With Vitamins Angels’ help we will be able to provide the essential nutrition an expectant mother needs to be better equipped for pregnancy, delivery and nursing, as well as, providing the vital nutrients necessary to increase birth weights and help babies resist common childhood diseases and infections." This year, ProCaps Laboratories donated over 650,000 bottles (58 million capsules) of prenatal vitamins to Vitamin Angels. During each of Andrew Lessman’s Home Shopping Network television programs in April, July and October, ProCaps Labs pledged one 90-count bottle of prenatal vitamins for every product they sold on air. Last year, Vitamin Angels distributed vitamins and other supplements to reach over 7 million children, mothers and babies in 40 countries worldwide.
